DARKNESS TAKES OVER THE DAY
(Old Testament Prophecy - Amos 8:9)
“In that day, says the Sovereign Lord, I will make the sun go down at noon and darken the earth while it is still day.”
(Fulfilled in Jesus - Matthew 27:45)
“At noon, darkness fell across the whole land until three o’clock.”
Thought:
God revealed through His Holy Spirit to the prophet Amos, who lived over 700 years before Jesus was crucified, that “on that day” the sun will set at noon and darkness will be over the earth. And then Matthew, an eyewitness, confirms that the entire land became dark for three hours. The darkness accompanying Jesus’ crucifixion is Matthew’s first supernatural sign preceding the salvation of not only Israel but the world.
Prayer:
Father, sometimes it feels like darkness swallows the light of day in my own life; sometimes I feel I’ve come to the end of my rope. Then I remember that Jesus hung on the cross at just such a time for me, bearing judgment’s burden so I could be free. Thank You, that when darkness swallowed the sun, Your Son was swallowing up death in victory. Amen.
