MINISTRY TO THE BROKENHEARTED
(Old Testament Prophecy - Isaiah 61:1)
“The Spirit of the Sovereign Lord is upon me, because the Lord has appointed me to bring good news to the poor. He has sent me to comfort the brokenhearted and to announce that captives will be released and prisoners will be freed.”
(Fulfilled in Jesus - Luke 4:18)
“The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, for he has appointed me to preach Good News to the poor. He has sent me to proclaim that captives will be released, that the blind will see, that the downtrodden will be freed from their oppressors…”
Thought:
God made a way for broken hearts to be repaired and captives to be freed. When Isaiah spoke these words to the exiles, he was talking about himself and foreshadowing Jesus’ work.
Prayer:
Thank You , Lord, for the freedom found in You. I had no way to break the bonds of sin in my life, but You have rescued me who is poor in spirit and desperate for You. Although broken and sinful, You have covered me by Your sacrifice and set me free. May I be Your representative to the poor and those in prison of any kind and above all, help me to share Your good news! Amen.
