Jesus Is the Subject…

Today’s Reading - Luke 6:46-49

Thought:
This passage highlights the danger of doing nothing. We typically think of the
man who built his house on the sand (better known from Matthew’s account) as being
one who founded his life on sinful, worldly things, one who had actively rejected God
and filled his life with ungodly and wicked pursuits. But that is not the picture that Luke
paints in his account of Jesus’ teaching. Notice that “the one who hears and does
not do them is like a man who built a house on the ground without a
foundation…” Many people feel that, by attempting to “ride the fence” and not make a
decision one way or the other about Christ, whether to accept Him or reject Him, they
are safe on middle ground. But Jesus teaches us that to not make a decision is just as
destructive to our lives as to actively rejected Him. There is only one way to build our
lives on a firm foundation — to accept Him and live by His words.
How can we avoid the middle ground of non-committal?
